The Ice Age Married Global Warming in 2020. Then they had a child…
I haven’t seen much of the usual snow that I remember from my childhood and even ten years ago in the New York tristate area. We have all noticed warmer weather when it used to be cold outside. The is a lot of discussion and debate over the validity of global warming and what to expect in our lifetime. However, nobody was prepared for the frozen worldwide economy that fell upon us in the late winter of 2020. Suddenly, we where all mostly staying indoors. When we do go out we must wear a face covering and maybe gloves, too. Instead of frostbite from exposure to the frozen air or having our moist fingers freeze against a cold metal surface that we might touch, the danger is a virus that might be airborne or on any surface that we might touch. The virus protection of gloves and mask are now proving to be particularly uncomfortable in the heat of summer. Not everyone is staying indoors and at home anymore, now that summer is here and some restrictions are being lifted.
As with effects of extreme heat or cold, all kinds of new problems now prevent most of us from going about out business no matter where in the world you might be. Expat travels are now extra difficult. It used to be snow storms in winter that had had us northerners stocking up on toilet paper, food, and staying home. This year it was a virus, whatever the weather outside. The nor’easter has been bested by a norovirus of sorts. However, COVID19 has proved to be more widespread, damaging, and unpredictable. It used to be for how long and how much will it snow. Now the question is how much longer can we live like this. There is an old joke that if a statistician put their head in a freezer and their feet in a fire, on average they should be comfortable. Nobody seems to be sure what measures to take next and for how long we can comfortably endure extreme conditions. Getting comfortable again might take some getting used to.
Next we woke up to the sudden breaking water of a birth in America to a demand of justice for all. With the tragic death of yet another Blackman murdered at the hands of law enforcement officers, America erupted in unified outrage. Perhaps a special thanks to the advent of social media and video cameras everywhere, now we are collectively moving our awareness to our own unbalanced and biased systems of governance in action. Not only are we seeing protests in America, but in many other countries around the world. As a planet now standing in solidarity for the end of racism at this moment in time. Peace is a byproduct of happiness. Happiness is the recognition of the gifts we have. So many of us take for granted the gift of good health, and often life itself, not to mention basic necessities of a stable home, friends, family, and for some, privilege in society. Out of Mr. George Floyd’s tragic death, a child called Hope was born out of a very long and difficult national pregnancy. Hope, to finally end racism.
